Man of Steel.....again really?

Sorry for the long hiatus but we're back with another hollywood review for you! They've done it again, and by again I mean turned one of the classic American comics of childhood and remixed it to be a Hollywood blockbuster! This is.... I can't even remember what version of Superman, but I'm personally tired of the lazy "let's just reboot the whole series" genre thats out right now (still pissed about Star Trek and ALREADY mad about Star Wars...)!

The movie itself is NOT bad. Its filled with all the latest special effects, but the casting was a little lackluster (that FBI wackjob from Boardwalk Empire is the Donald Rumsfeld of Krypton...sure ok). You get the flying/fighting scenes you wish you could have seen decades ago that we now have the technology for so thats rewarding but at what cost? The plot line was altered from the comics (so I've heard) and even from the earlier movies, so if you're a purist, prepare to be pissed.

If you were born after 1996 you'll probably love it and think its an awesome cartoon to live action movie! So time for the reel (haha) question Hot or Not? Its not worth the price of admission but I might try to sneak in after watching The Purge....

Rango

If you even have a television with any type of reception (cable, satellite, or digital antenna), there is no way you've been immune to the ads for the not-so-fuzzy, CGI animated, celebrity voiced 'Rango'. Its was a cute, not-so-cuddly adventure of a pet lizard, who gets stranded in the desert. After he stumbles upon the humble townsfolk of 'Dirt', his clumsy antics begin a series of events that wind up making him Sheriff. He goes on to learn that the town is going through a desperate drought and on top of it all, somebody stole the last of the water from the bank!

Aside from Johnny Depp, the voice behind Rango, there's a slightly lesser know cast of supporting actors. Ned Beatty, Isla Fisher, and Abigail Breslin just to name a few, and if you don't know those, you probably won't recognize anybody else either. Visually, the movie looked great! I may have preferred it in 3D since CGI lends itself to do a bit more with scenery and special effects than live action movies. Although I'm not down with the presence of adult jokes in kids movies (the trailing off "son of a...", and lots of "damn you", "you go to hell") I've heard worse on public transportation and the movie did at least make up for it with the assortment of desert critters, and truly playful 'out west' banter.

I say take the kids and enjoy, cause its much easier to sit through than Gnomeo...

The Adjustment Bureau

Last night I saw 'The Adjustment Bureau' starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. I'll try to keep the spoilers to a minimum, but the first 15 minutes had me thinking, this is inception all over again...

I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was nothing like I thought it was going to be! No question, Damon is a great actor and the role he played suited him well, I think he even wen the entire movie without killing anyone! Aside from that, the chemistry between his character and Emily Blunt was very well written and came across well on screen. The romance was surprisingly realistic, the single congressman, falling for the ballerina, all the while 'The Bureau' say how its 'not in the Chairman's Plan.'

The themes of love and fate twist and turn into quite and entertaining story that was well worth the $8.50 matinee ticket!
